North-Western NSW

The kids that come to the program are currently from a handful of towns in North-Western NSW. We are looking to expand the program all across Australia. If you want to speak to us about expanding to a town near you please contact us.

Brewarrina

Brewarrina is a community of 1,143 people in rural NSW on the banks of the Barwon river. Nestled near the Queensland border, it’s over 750km north west of Sydney.

The town was a significant meeting place for a number of Aboriginal nations – there were seven tribes that would gather on the river for trade.

The town boasts the National Heritage listed 40 thousand year old Brewarrina Fish Traps, elaborate man-made stone constructions in the riverbed designed to trap fish.

“It’s a good town. It’s a great place to grow up. We went swimming in the river, and spent time at the pool, playing in the park and playing like any normal kids do. Everyone knows everyone, which is special. You get in and you do your thing; you have a yarn to people and people yarn back to you.”

Bourke

Bourke has a population of 1824 people and it was formerly the largest inland port in the world for exporting wool on the Darling River.

The Bourke court house is unique in inland Australia in that it was originally a maritime court and to this day maintains that distinction. That distinction is evident in the crowns that sits above the finials of the flag poles atop the corner parapets of the building.

Goodooga

A town bordered by Brewarrina and Lightning Ridge Goodooga is home to 247 people with over 80% identifying as Aboriginal.

The town lies 20 kilometres south of the Queensland border.

Goodooga is an Aboriginal word meaning "Yam", is a village in the Australian state of New South Wales in Brewarrina Shire on the eastern bank of the Bokhara River

Goodooga is rich in local history and is also known to be one of the former hideouts of the legendary bushranger, Captain Thunderbolt. It also boasts some of the best Artesian bore baths in Australia.

Weilmoringle

Located in the upper Culgoa floodplain of New South Wales near the Queensland border and situated on the banks of the Culgoa River approximately 70 kms south west of Goodooga and 180 kms north of Bourke, Weilmoringle has a population of about 70 people.

Enngonia

Enngonia is located 859 km north-west from Sydney; 97 km north of Bourke and 40 km south of the Queensland border and has a population of 147 people.
